Jodi Moore’s When A Dragon Moves In is the adorable story of a little boy whose sandcastle is overtaken by a dragon. With mom and dad distracted by other tasks, and an incredulous older sister, this little boy is left to enjoy his new friend.

The boy soon finds that it is a gentle dragon, whose fire-breathing ways are used only to toast marshmallows, and whose fangs are used only to frighten bullies away. But soon, as snacks are greedily gobbled and the lemonade overflows with bubbles, the little boy knows that he must send his dragon away…at least until tomorrow.

Told from a child’s perspective, Dragon is a tale of imagination found only in youth (and the mind of Jodi Moore!). The cadence of the lines is wonderful, each leading perfectly into the next, but without being too predictable (reminding me of Laura Numeroff’s If You Give series).

The illustrations are amazing and fit perfectly with the story. They depict a joyful beach, a beautiful sandcastle, and a family thoroughly enjoying their vacation…oh, and one friendly dragon!

This is a new favorite of mine. It’s great for beach, bedtime, and beyond. Pack this one in your beach bag!

*Due to popular demand, When A Dragon Moves In is already in its second print run! Congrats to Ms. Moore!
