Dude, where's my nickname?

We recently had dinner with an (older generation) out-of-town family friend. He (playfully) laughed at the fact that we often call our boys 'buddy' or 'dude'.

He said that in his day it was 'son', or maybe occasionally 'honey'. I'd like to say that this has more to do with the way we treat our kids-- clearly defined rules, but with relaxed language-- but I think it may just be traced back to our valley girl/rocker guy alter-egos ;)

Daddy Calls Me Doodlebug is a cute little book about the nicknames that fathers have for their little ones.

The muted-color illustrations show loving, playful scenes of daddies and their babies. Each nickname is based on the child’s behavior; humans and animals are shown in action! Daddy Calls Me Doodlebug pairs learning and fun, with simple animal behavior and entertaining rhymes on each page.

Daddy Calls Me Doodlebug, along with JD Lester’s other similar titles, Mommy Calls Me Monkeypants and Grandma Calls Me Gigglepie , are wonderfully fun for young children, and great gifts for any occasion. Daddy… would especially be great for Father’s Day—either as a gift to a daddy or grandfather, or just to read with their Doodlebug on their special day!

JD Lester, a wonderful children’s book author, “is a Southern lady with a big sense of humor and a heart of gold. She lives in Lexington, Kentucky, with her husband, their children, and two golden retrievers.”

Illustrator Hiroe Nakata “grew up in Japan, where she was encouraged in her drawing by her grandfather, a painter. She moved to the United States when she was sixteen and is a graduate of the Parsons School of Design. She has illustrated numerous children's books and lives in Brooklyn, NY.”
