I wanted to make a Valentine's Day decoration, but didn't have anything specific in mind. Browsing pinterest, I found a wreath, with a little banner strung across it. As much as I liked it, I had made the heart wreath (below) a couple years ago, so I already had something for the front door.
I decided to use the Pinterest banner wreath as my inspiration instead.
I still have material that I bought to recover a chair several years ago (I apparently bought WAY too much, as I have used it for so many projects since then--see below-- and I still have a ton!), and I have Sharpies because, duh, who doesn't have Sharpies.
I printed L-O-V-E letters to use as my stencils (don't forget to reverse the image so that it's the right way when you flip it over!). I love 'typewriter' fonts, but you can use any font you like, or even freehand it. I traced over the reversed outline with pencil, then put the letter right-side-up on the material. I traced over the letter to transfer the pencil to the material. Make sense?

Then I just followed the pencil lines with a black marker. I liked the outline-only letters, but thought that it wouldn't read well when it was hung up, so I colored them in. I did the same for the heart, using red.
I grabbed some clothesline and clothespins that I had from an old craft/gift (you can usually find them at the dollar store if you're not a hoarder resourceful like me), and strung it in my front window. I thought about using string or ribbon, but I liked the extra element that the clothespins added, and it made it really easy to put up, adjust, and (eventually) take down.
It still needs a little adjusting, but for something that took me 30 minutes and is made entirely out of supplies I already had on hand, I'm happy with it! (Although, I might make another heart and put the hearts on the ends, with LOVE in the middle; I don't like how the window panes break up the word, but that's just my OCD talking...And, after I took this picture, I added another clothespin to each letter, so that both sides were supported.)
