(I just thought of this, so I'll be making them up as we go, so let's see how this works, haha!)
Can you, or DO you, accept a compliment?
When someone says you look good, do you say:
A. I try!
B. Ugh, I feel disgusting.
C. Thanks, you too!
Can you, or DO you, accept a compliment?
When someone says they like your shirt, do you say:
A. Thanks! Got it on sale!
B. It's so old, but at least it fits!
C. YOU have the best clothes.
Can you, or DO you, accept a compliment?
When someone says you smell good, do you say:
A. Thanks! I got to shower today ;)
B. Probably baby spit...
C. I was just going to ask you what you were wearing!
Can you, or DO you, accept a compliment?
When someone asks if you lost weight, do you:
A. Say: I'm trying to shape up a little!
B. Think: I must have looked fat last time she saw me.
C. Say: Ugh, I wish I could have your body.
Can you, or DO you, accept a compliment?
When someone says your hair looks great, do you say:
A. Thanks! I finally found the right length/product/style.
B. No way, I need a haircut so bad.
C. Who does YOUR hair? I like your highlights.
So, obviously, the A answers are the closest to actually *accepting* the compliment (sometimes with a little humor), B dismisses it completely, and C transfers it back to the compliment-giver.
I witness each of these pretty often, but usually hear B the most. Why do we feel the need to decline the compliment? If someone thinks you look good (even when you don't agree), put it in your confidence bank and say thanks!
