I know! Read this Meredith Schorr book that's been on my nightstand for like 5 months! I had read the first chapter-- and instantly liked it-- but, well, life had pulled me away.
So I figured I'd read a couple chapters to get myself back into it. 90 minutes and 180 pages later, I put it down...because i had finished it. It was SO good, so familiar.
Blogger Girl is the story of Kimberly Long, who works as a legal secretary, but lives for chick lit. Her blog, "Pastel is the New Black" is a huge hit, and is largely responsible for reviving the world of chick lit. Some, however, don't see it that way, and look down on Kim's "little blog".
When Kim's arch-nemesis from high school pops up on her To-Review List, Kim struggles with her integrity, and her wantingness for revenge! Meanwhile, Kim has finally caught the eye of handsome, perfectly-scruffed, Nicholas, who works just down the hall.
The work romance, the struggle of conscience, some new twists in a great circle of friends, a judgmental sister, a troubling new associate...Kim begins to question her entire life.
Blogger Girl is so well-written. After reading Meredith's first novel, Just Friends with Benefits, I wrote to her and said that-- for good or bad-- Stephanie's group of friends reminded me so much of my own friends! Here, we see a different, but equally great, group. Relatability like that is unbeatable, and helps the reader to really connect with the characters. For me, Meredith's books are less about the story (even though she writes great ones!) and more about the feeling. That feeling you get when you're reading a great book!
I love the references to classic chick lit novels that are mentioned in BG. Coincidentally, Blogger Girl is sure to land among the ranks of the most popular chick lit titles.
