If your kids are big enough to be in a booster seat (as opposed to a 5-pt harness car seat), make sure that the shoulder strap is locked into place. Pull it out all the way, click it into place, make sure it's lying properly across the child, then let it retract so that it's tight. (If you pull on it again, it shouldn't go anywhere, otherwise it's not doing its job!)
