This is a great article. My husband is wonderful, but I wear more metaphorical hats FOR SURE.

One thing I figured out was that it's partly about style. I am a get up and get it done'er. He's a chill out and wake up slowly then get to it'er. So, part of my problem is patience. He will eventually do what needs to be done, just not immediately (when I want want it done, and think it makes more sense to do it!).

"In free play there is hierarchy, exclusion, and the seed to bullying." Really? What about the friendships, conflict resolution, and creativity that is born out of free play?

The term "boys and girls" does not suggest inequality. Why banish words? Just teach them that girls and boys are equals.

If I'm over-simplifying, they're over-complicating!

Are we giving the wrong message with this 'school yard' fun, boys will be boys message?

We just had a conversation about sharing/being kind vs being a pushover last week with our kids. I think it's all part of the same conversation: peer pressure, bullying, excusing behavior. I DO believe that kids will be kids, but there needs to be limits to what that means.

My boys are such boys. And by that I mean dirtballs. It's not the willingness or the ability that surprises me, it's the speed at which they can do it! Seriously, 0 to pigpen in 60 seconds flat. Thank God we've switched to showers 90% of the time; my bathtub could not handle that mess!
