I hate fights. I don't want to see them in movies, much less in person. It literally turns my stomach. I can't imagine my boys being in a fist fight, and knowing how insane kids-- and many parents apparently-- are, I'm even more frightened.
You can teach your son to walk away, but if the other kid follows and fights...well then he has to know, at least to some extent, how to fight. I suppose this writer took the right path by talking extensively about it, and then enrolling her child in self-defense martial arts classes.
