My first-grader came home with a piece he made in art class, where they learned about Matisse.
As much of an internal struggle it was to decide to send him to public school, I must say oh my! I'm pretty sure I didn't encounter Matisse until college, except maybe during the once-a-year visit from Art on Wheels.
(Also, I know that Catholic school has come a long way in the past 20 years, but still. I'm impressed.)
