When she lost her mom to cancer the same week she found out she was pregnant, Heather began the most wonderful and most difficult time of her life. When books and advice were lacking what she needed, she decided to create it herself. And The First 30 Days as Mommy is just that.
Each chapter of the book is dedicated to a day. Each day provides an honestly memory, reflection, or recognition from Heather, along with a relevant prayer and verse. But you don’t need to be particularly religious or spiritual to see the relevance.
This is not a parenting book that needs to reside on the night table to be poured over page by page. Rather, it is a small, easy to manage book that would take 3 minutes to read that day’s chapter, or could be picked up and put down as needed.
Heather’s thoughts and writings are genuine and relatable. I doubt any mother would not find empathy in her frustration, giggles at her baby brain, or smile at the memories that a passage evoked in their own mind.
It would be a great little gift to bring along when you go to visit any new mom.
The First 30 Days as Mommy was written by Heather Buchanan Green, published by Tate Publishing, March 2012 (available now via Heather’s site).
